Head Coach Laura Riddellstarted swimming when she was 6 years old for the Berkeley Swim Club. She joined Berkeley Aquatic as an 8 year old and switched to Summit at age 15 where she went on to become a Nationals athlete in her Senior Year. She also was the Swim Team Captain at Governor Livingston High School. Laura went on to swim through college at LehighUniversity. Laura began coaching for Summit in 1989 as a part-time 8 and under coach. In 1997, she became the Assistant Head Coach and in April 2009 became the Head Coach and Director of Competitive Aquatics.
Ann Doyle grew up in Westfield and began swimming at the age of 7. She was New England Interscholastic swimming champion while attending Exeter Academy and was a member of the University of Virginia's first women's swimming team. She coached for several years before earning a business degree and working in sports promotion and event production, returning to the sport as Assistant Coach for the Seals in 2003. Coach Anne is the Head Age Group Coach.
Rich Callaghan has been volunteering his time as a coach with Summit since 2003 and was a Seal Co-Coach of the Year. Prior to that he was a volunteer swim instructor at the Summit Area Y, where he was awarded Y Volunteer of the Year, the Stephen Hadley Award. Rich also coached at Fish & Game during college. He began swimming with Summit in 1970 as an eight and under, went to Y Nat's at 14. He finished his swimming carreer at the Montclair YMCA. Rich is a former NJ State record holder, Eastern HS finalist, Y Nat's two Silver Medals and finalist swimmer, Union County Champ and former record holder, captain of Summit High. He was Captain of the Bucknell Men's swim team (Division I) where he earned a BS in Civil Engineering. He is a former National USMS Masters record holder, current NJ Masters record holder, and former two-time Y Masters champion (200 breast and 200 IM). Rich swam around Manhattan on two separate occasions, Atlantic City on three occasions, and continues to swim approximately 20 K per week.
Tim Clewell swam as an age-grouper through age 12 and then picked up swimming seriously again at age 19 in conjunction with competing in triathlons. He remained active in swim training and triathlon competition for over 25 years, including attaining several top-10 finishes in sprint- and middle-distance events and a top-20 finish in a Half-Ironman event. Having "retired" from triathlons, Tim remains active in New Jersey Master's Swimming. He has been coaching with Summit since 2005.
Betty Dutenhofer, was an active parent on our team and helped her son become one of the most decorated athletes on the Summit team. She enjoyed swimming so much, she became a coach in 1993 to stay involved in the sport. Betty works primarily with the 12/under athletes who love to call her "Mrs. D."
Marianne Grywalski, known to all as "Mrs. G," had two daughters on the Summit Area YMCA Seals team. She became a coach in 1997 while they were still swimming.
Andrew Leblanchas been coaching with the Seals as an Assistant Coach with the Senior group since 2006. He swam competitively for 16 years including 12 years at the YMCA of the North Shore and 4 years at Seton Hall University, a Division 1 Big East School. He was an Assistant Coach for 1 year at Seton Hall in which he traveled with 9 swimmers to the U.S. Open in San AntonioTX. He also worked with 23 swimmers who went on to the Big East Championships that year, including 1 Big East Champion. He was an assistant coach for 2 years at the YMCA of the NorthShore in Eastern Massachusetts, the largest YMCA swim team in the nation. He worked with all Senior and National level groups including 39 swimmers who went to YMCA National Championships, counting 6 first-time qualifiers. He was also the Interim Head Coach for the YNS Masters Swim Team.
Greg Reeveshas been a Summit YMCA Swim Instructor since 1984. He has been a Summit coach since 1999. In high school, Greg swam for the YMCA in Orange NJ. Greg works with all age groups.
